we caught up with the artist and mom of two precious girls at their home in raleigh, north carolina to chat about holiday plans and the limited-edition artwork collection she created exclusively for minnow.
tell us about yourself! where you're located, about your beautiful life, family and career…
hello minnow, so nice to meet you! i am caroline boykin, an artist and momma of two precious girls, located in raleigh, north carolina. i grew up in a small, coastal town in alabama that very much inspires everything creative that i do. a fine arts degree from ole miss (hotty toddy!) and a big ole dream solidified my career as an artist! i paint, sculpt, garden, and dabble in interior design.
you have such an inspiring career. what led you to become an artist?
thank you! i have always been creative but didn’t find my artistic voice and love for all mediums of art until college. there was a fantastic professor at ole miss that believed in me and saw my potential. without that encouragement i don’t know if i would have had the courage to jump into being a full time artist like i did!
as an artist, where do you find inspiration?
honestly everywhere. nature and human interactions play a large role in my paintings. you can see from this specific body of work that everyday life is a muse of mine. and sunshine! have to have lots of sunshine.
tell us about the pieces you created for minnow.
the colors and distinct silhouettes of minnow swimsuits from the recent resort collection were used to create this body of work. the addition of children and cheeky beach themes were so fun to add to my ‘pout’ series of paintings on paper! it was really a joy to create and i hope that can be felt through the pieces.
describe your personal style in three words.
classic, feminine, and easy.
what brings you the most joy as a parent?
so many things! probably seeing delight in the small things in life through my daughters’ eyes. their unique personalities bring incredible joy to my husband and i.
now, in the spirit of our resort season, we have a few travel-related questions…
are you traveling anywhere for the holidays?
every year we travel down to alabama to spend thanksgiving with my family at our camp. it's a week filled with too much food, too many giggles, and all of our favorite people. for christmas we are taking the girls to new york city! it's their first time and the girls are absolutely thrilled!
what’s in your carryon?
a design magazine, a bunch of snacks, wet wipes, and all of the things that wont fit in my girls’ carry ons. i think all moms will agree that we have to carry all of the things, all of the time.
my go-to in-flight beverage is…
something with bubbles, usually a ginger ale. i am a nervous flier!
my go-to travel uniform is…

remember it's a luxury to travel! take a deep breath and have those wet wipes handy.
