come with us on holiday! from the seaside city views of lisbon to the unspoiled beauty of comporta, our founder, morgan smith, shares her family’s favorites from their recent visit.
lisbon
to stay
- we kicked off the trip in lisbon, where we rented an airbnb in the chiado neighborhood that is right in the heart of the city. the cobblestone streets, sunny yellow cable cars and beautiful tiled buildings were so gorgeous and really captured the old-world charm.

to eat
- time out market offers so many food choices under one roof. not to be missed if you are a food lover!
- go to manteigaria to try portugal’s signature dessert, astéis de nata.
- if you have a chance to get away for a date night, try prado or belcanto.
to do
- my children loved riding the red trolley, which winds through narrow streets and climbs hills. the tour begins at comercio square. definitely a must-have experience and best way to see the city.
- located in the historic center of lisbon, the santa justa lift connects the lower streets of the baiza with the higher largo do cormo. fun fact: it was built by the portuguese-born french architect, raoul de mesiner du ponsard, who was apprentice to gustave eiffel…
- we took a day trip from lisbon to cascais (which is the closest beach town) and then made our way to sintra to explore the castles. for an afternoon snack, check out santini. it’s one of the most famous ice cream parlors! check out praia do guincho beach for an atlantic dip!
- my oldest son loved the tower of belem, the former port where portuguese explorers set sail to find new trade routes.
comporta
next stop during our trip: down the coast to the idyllic seaside of comporta.

to do
- visit JNcQUOI beach club for a day by the water
- we couldn't resist jumping into portugal's surf culture, with world renowned waves. we rented boards and made a day of it.
