home by the sea: morgan welcomes you to charleston!

raised in laguna beach, ca, minnow founder morgan smith swapped one coast for another when she began a new chapter with her family  in charleston, sc. join us for a peek inside her new lowcountry home - and see if you can spot many of minnow’s signature design elements.

“being west coast raised, I really wanted to lean into the southern sensibility while still feeling fresh and interesting.”

to achieve this balance and capture the charming + colorful feel charleston is known for, morgan enlisted the help of skilled designers at One Kings Lane.

like minnow, One Kings Lane leans into thoughtful details that feel collected and curated. both brands are known for their sense of elevating the ordinary. One Kings Lane offers heirloom-worthy, old-world elements layered with clean + modern accessories to freshen the space.

“I wanted [the space] to have layers of both current and antique pieces to provide interest and personality.”

morgan's southern, seaside home situated on the charleston harbor is a perfect blend of old and new for a look that is classic and timeless. the home is traditional charleston single style, with a lovely entry porch (and plenty of space to rock) with large white columns and stately black shutters that feels warm and inviting.

“we leaned into southern hospitality and wanted to create rooms that we could envision ourselves effortlessly hosting and entertaining in.”

for the guest room, since both morgan and her husband’s families live in california, they wanted to create beautiful and warm spaces to welcome their frequent visitors. teaming up with One Kings Lane designers enhanced the beauty of the space, highlighting the wrap-around saltbox style windows and partial plantation shutters to allow for streams of sunlight and enjoyment of marsh views.

“the color palette we chose played on calm and soothing, but still fun and happy. I love the playful yet sophisticated mix of all the prints, which is something we also do at minnow. the farrow & ball block wallpaper significantly enhances the space and provides so much color and personality. It makes me instantly happy when I enter!”

for the powder room, we turned to southern artist, lulie wallace, for the statement moment. lulie’s anna wallpaper can not only be found on morgan’s walls, but also on a minnow spring ‘21 swimsuit. the accessories in this powder room were sourced by local interior designer, molly basile

on to the bunk room! having three children and running a children’s brand, the bunk room was a focal point for morgan. designed by molly basile, morgan wanted the space to feel playful but still elevated, very much in line with minnow’s design values. creating a gender-neutral space can be challenging, but the color palette of cool blues with pops of yellow, timeless prints, and furniture sourced creates that perfect balance.

lastly, the formal dining room designed with One Kings Lane is warmed up with soft, small-scale florals and understated prints, like the whimsical and refined farrow & ball wallpaper. morgan also loved mixing in local designers or vintage pieces to layer the room with treasures + meaning, like the charleston-crafted estelle colored glasses or the chest of drawers found on @oneofakindcharleston

having a textile background at minnow, [OKL was] receptive to all my print ideas and design thoughts, while also pushing me outside of my comfort zone. blue is such a safe space for me (clearly!), so when they suggested the brown and blush floral upholstered chairs, i was hesitant at first but wanted to embrace the unexpected, and now those chairs are my favorite pieces in the room! so you might just see the print on a swimsuit…”
